rape of the lock

alexander pope was best known for his satires…

regarded the greatest english poet of his generation…

wrote a narrative poem…rape of the lock

it was written to resolve a petty squabble…

when i first heard of it back in school, i delighted at the thought of  a poem that transgressed romanticism or cryptic  verse or strange dedications…

when i finally chanced to read it, i realised that a poem ought never be judged by its title…

i was flipping through some of my pictures of old delhi and chanced upon the lock above…

so i picked up pope again…

it made for an interesting read…

                                                                                                                                                    …age does things to you!

  1. alexander pope always reminds me of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind…..

  2. I love the imagery in the way rape of the lock begins….something about the sunlight hitting Belinda’s shut eyes…I recall vaguely…one of the most vivid imagery that has stayed ‘locked’ in my head since the first time I read it. =)
